Voluptuary: Seth Carnes - Semiotic Poetry

57 STEWART AVE - ROSCOE, NY
For over a decade, Seth Carnes has developed the concept of a mutable, semiotic poetry.
Semiotic poetry connects to the lineage of concrete and visual poetry, also Fluxus and the Beats, where text, photos, glyphs, emoji, and other symbols are channeled towards poetic, evocative, and representative readings that are often open-ended.
This contemporary poetry is generated by hand, with software, producing a mutable and interactive poem and file format, but remains connected to a long lineage of physical and analog techniques, including chance operations and cut-ups.
Because this work is more visual, his “reading” will be a digitally projected presentation of this work and lineage, followed by the creation of a collaborative improv “poetic” with the audience in realtime.
For the open mic that follows, attendees are welcome to bring traditional written and read poetry, but also expanded poetics like visual or concrete poetry.
