The Roscoe Collective Opening

Official opening day!

We are beyond excited to officially open the doors of The Roscoe Collective, a space dedicated to art, community, and creativity in the heart of Roscoe. This opening marks the start of something truly special!  A home where local voices and ideas can shine, and where neighbors and visitors alike can gather to connect through art, music, storytelling, and food.

Spend the day exploring our very first exhibition, featuring works from a diverse group of local creators whose art reflects the beauty, resilience, and imagination of our community.  You’ll also get the chance to meet the artists themselves, hear about their creative journeys, and be among the first to experience the Collective’s vision come to life.

We’ll have live music by Collin Dempsey, whose sound will fill the gallery with warmth and energy. We’ll also be serving refreshments and light snacks thoughtfully prepared and sourced from our amazing small businesses right here in Roscoe, because celebrating our artist also means celebrating the chefs, bakers, brewers, and distillers in our town.

This opening isn’t just about launching a gallery.  It’s about building a gathering place, a hub for collaboration, and a home for creativity in all its forms. Whether you’re a longtime supporter of the arts, a curious newcomer, or someone looking to experience Roscoe’s unique spirit, this is the perfect opportunity to come together.

Let’s raise a glass to our artists, our community, and the exciting future of The Roscoe Collective. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Personal coming out stories from your friends and neighbors

National Coming Out Day

On National Coming Out Day, we honor the courage it takes to live authentically and share our truths. Coming out is not just a moment. It’s a journey, filled with twists of vulnerability, humor, fear, and joy. Every story is unique, and every voice adds to the beautiful tapestry of our community.

This year, we invite you to gather with us for a special storytelling session. Members of our community will step forward to share their personal coming out stories. Moments that shaped them, lessons they carry, and the love and strength that emerged from their experiences. Some stories may bring laughter, others may bring tears, but all of them will remind us of the power of visibility and connection.

Whether you are LGBTQ+, an ally, or simply curious to learn more, this evening is about celebrating authenticity, honoring resilience, and creating space where we lift each other up. Come as you are, bring your open heart, and leave with a deeper sense of belonging.

Together, let’s celebrate the courage it takes to come out, the community that surrounds us, and the joy of being unapologetically ourselves.

Origami workshop and book reading
co-hosted by The Hound Books

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes

In honor of World Peace Day, The Hound Books and The Roscoe Collective is excited to hold an origami workshop and book reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, by Eleanor Coerr.

Listen to the inspiring true story of Sadako Sasaki, a young Japanese girl who developed leukemia from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Remembering the ancient legend that folding a thousand paper cranes grants a wish, Sadako begins folding with the hope of healing and peace. Though she grows weaker, her determination and spirit inspire those around her. Sadako’s story has become a symbol of hope, resilience, and the desire for a world without war, reminding readers of the power of courage and the enduring dream of peace.

We will also learn to fold origami paper cranes which will be assembled to form a giant mobile once we’ve collected 1000 cranes!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30

Sunday Home & The Roscoe Collective hosts

Roscoe Shepherd’s Pantry:
Community Bake Sale

On the porch of Sunday Home: 48 Stewart Ave

Every month our small but mighty pantry serves over 400 nieghbors. They provide food for families, seniors, and anyone in need—always with love, and never with questions.

But rising costs and reduced funding mean the pantry is struggling to keep up. Together, we can make sure it continues to serve our community.

Come by, share a treat, donate, and support your neighbors. Every cookie, every cake, every dollar helps keep food on the table for those who need it most. With love and community, we can keep Roscoe Shepherd’s Pantry strong.

A COMING OF AGE STORY SET TO THE PULSE OF PUNK ROCK

A music enthusiast living in New York's East Village, Angela's story unfolds chronologically, starting in 1977, charting her late adolescence in tandem with her transition from observer to participant. Gradually becoming a nightly fixture of her neighborhood's vibrant underground rock milieu at CBGB and Max's Kansas City, by 1978 she had continued to fulfill her punk fantasy abroad.

She followed the Clash on a tour across England, finally returning home in 1979 to start her own band. Angela encountered an impressive cast of characters on her adventures, including Lydia Lunch, Joe Strummer, Billy Idol, Klaus Nomi, and Sid Vicious.

PUBLISHED BY THE HAT & BEARD PRESS

I Feel Famous: Punk Diaries 1977-1981 touch on a variety of themes including identity politics, downtown NY, Anglophilia, f andom, fame, and fashion. Contrasting the stark black and white of 1970s New York with the exuberant beat-up color of a decaying London and its disenchanted youth, a lost era is brought back to life through a dedicated fan's own reportage. Creative, funny and endlessly cool, the result is an unprecedented perspective into an ever-popular moment in contemporary cultural history.

Angela Jaeger is a singer, writer, and teacher who founded the late 70's No Wave band the Stare Kits and has recorded with Pigbag, Bush Tetras, Trevor Horn, David Cunningham, and The Monochrome Set, amongst others. A born and bred New Yorker who has lived in Barcelona and London, she -- currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
